Denisha Lias is an Associate Technical Consultant at AHEAD. Although she began as an economist—and the first in her family to graduate college—she took a bold leap and pursued a dynamic ServiceNow career. Thanks to her passion for problem-solving, she’s now thriving in a role that blends real-world impact with personal growth.

A leap of faith in a new career 

Denisha had a master’s degree in economics,  but she realized an economics career wasn’t for her. So, she started to look for other opportunities, Shestruck gold when she saw an email about a RiseUp with ServiceNow training program from HBCUConnect, Intrigued by the idea of a more dynamic career, she took a leap of faith and began her ServiceNow journey. 

 

Support and community 

Denisha says the training program was intensive but incredibly supportive. She valued the opportunity to collaborate with peers, exchange ideas, and learn from experts. When she needed additional help, she turned to the ServiceNow Community as well as the vast array of online ServiceNow resources. The combination on-demand knowledge and a supportive network gave her the motivation and insights she needed to succeed.

I wasn't a technical person before and now I am. I was able to show myself that I am capable of more than I thought.

 

Finding success and belonging

Today, Denisha thrives as an Associate Technical Consultant at AHEAD, blending technical expertise with business analysis in a role she finds both exciting and rewarding.  Along the way, she’s become a Certified System Administrator (CSA) and Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS). Now, she’s working on her Certified Application Developer (CAD) qualification and has ambitions to become a Certified Master Architect (CMA). 

 

Starting a new career in ServiceNow isn’t easy, Denisha admits—it takes determination and hard work. But for those willing to take the leap, she says, the rewards are life-changing. What stood out was ServiceNow community, where she built relationships, found answers, and gained the confidence to succeed. For Denisha, the journey wasn’t just about building a career—it was about finding a place where she belonged.
