From military service to civilian life

After a decade of service in the U.S. Army, Josh recently left active duty. During those ten years, he spent time in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria supporting various Special Operations Forces missions, finishing his military career as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Technician.  

 

While Josh was committed to the Army, he was also never home. As a devoted family man, he wanted to spend more time with his wife and three children. So, as the time approached for him to leave the Army, he looked for a new career opportunity that would challenge him while letting him stay close to home. 

 

There's almost nothing in life that you can't accomplish if you just keep throwing yourself at it.

 

Breaking records despite no IT experience

Josh reached out to Chris, an Army brother who recently been through ServiceNow training as part of the DoD’s Skillbridge initiative. After listening to Chris, Josh knew a career with ServiceNow was exactly what he wanted. His IT skills were limited to unplugging and replugging devices, but his competitive nature and determination made up for it. During his initial ServiceNow training program, Josh achieved an unprecedented number of certifications—including Certified System Administrator (CSA), Certified Application Developer (CAD), and Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) in multiple ServiceNow areas—an extraordinary feat in such a short time. 

 

A life transformed

Josh’s career shift completely changed his life and his family’s. Opportunities to start over in a new field are rare, but he found one that opened doors to a fulfilling role at a great company. Looking ahead, he aims to become a solutions architect, designing impactful solutions that improve work for everyone. Now working from home, Josh enjoys the freedom to live life on his terms and cherishes the extra time with his family.
