A life-changing moment with ServiceNow

Daniel emigrated to Canada nine years ago and wanted to build an exciting and rewarding new career. He worked hard to train himself as a business analyst and spent time working at several companies. Then, Daniel had a life-changing moment—being the lead business analyst for a client implementing ServiceNow. He says he was amazed at how the ServiceNow platform solved organizational challenges. Daniel loved every minute of the implementation and wanted to know more.

Growing expertise

Daniel’s first step was to become a ServiceNow Certified System Administrator, which, he enthusiastically explains, gave him a firm baseline understanding of ServiceNow. He then went on to become a Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) for more than half a dozen other ServiceNow solution areas ranging from ITM and CSM to HRSD and GRC. He’s also broadened his knowledge and experience beyond implementation, becoming a Certified Technical Architect (CTA) and Certified Application Developer (CAD).

Me working with ServiceNow is a dream come true.

Achieving more, aiming higher

According to Daniel, ServiceNow has had a tremendous impact on his career. His deep skills are in high demand and have given him the opportunity to work with some of the world’s best organizations and clients in the world, including KPMG and Deloitte. Working 60 hours a week

Seven years ago, Isela was juggling two jobs, leaving her with little time for her newborn daughter, who was—and still is—the most important part of her life. She had no technical knowledge, but she wanted to create a better future for her family. Isela found her opportunity when Utah State University opened up a ServiceNow apprentice role. The position didn’t require technical skills, and it valued her exceptional customer service experience and ability to build relationships. Isela took the leap and applied.

All the help and support she needed

Isela says she felt overwhelmed at first, but she credits Utah State for providing the support she needed to succeed. Her first ServiceNow Knowledge conference was a turning point, where she gained valuable insights, connected with experts, and discovered the wealth of resources available in the ServiceNow Community. Seven years later, Isela is a senior ServiceNow developer at Utah State, collaborating with stakeholders to improve workflows across the university. She’s also a Certified System Administrator (CSA) and is considering becoming a Certified Technical Architect (CTA), the pinnacle of ServiceNow technical achievement.

A huge positive impact on her personal life

Isela says that her ServiceNow career gives her exciting new challenges every day. She loves ServiceNow technology, and she’s helping people, which gives her a real sense of purpose. From environmental sciences to IT

Keith began with a degree in environmental sciences but quickly realized it wasn’t his passion. Determined to pivot, he enrolled in a network technician program. After spending six years honing his IT skills, he joined an Alberta consulting firm specializing in help desk software. However, frequent on-site travel kept him away from his family, sparking his search for a career that offered both professional growth and work-life balance.

The ServiceNow opportunity

Keith’s life changed when the company he was working for became a ServiceNow partner. Keith jumped in with both feet, first taking the ServiceNow System Administration course and then becoming a Certified Application Developer (CAD) and Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS). His proudest accomplishment is becoming one of the first ServiceNow CMAs in 2019. And his company became so successful that it was acquired by Accenture in 2017.

ServiceNow launched the company into the big times. That opened so many opportunities for me.

On an upward trajectory

In the last 15 years, Keith has dealt with some of the largest companies in his region, doing everything from greenfield ServiceNow deployments to complete service desk replacements. He’s also passionate about giving back to other Accenture employees, including co-leading ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (CTA) cohorts at Accenture and helping CMA candidates prepare for exams. And he’s a dedicated supporter of the ServiceNow community, saying that while it’s huge, it’s very personal—everyone helps each other and he’s built great relationships. 

Finding work-life balance

And what about those long hours on site? Because ServiceNow runs in the cloud, he’s able to travel far less. That’s had a huge positive impact on his personal life. He’s been able to watch his children grow, get involved in what they do, and spend quality time with his wife. His oldest daughter is graduating from high school this year and has already been accepted at a post-secondary institution. Keith says it’s an exciting time for him, and he’s glad he can be at home to experience it.

A leap of faith in a new career

Denisha had a master’s degree in economics, but she realized an economics career wasn’t for her. So, she started to look for other opportunities, She struck gold when she saw an email about a RiseUp with ServiceNow training program from HBCUConnect, Intrigued by the idea of a more dynamic career, she took a leap of faith and began her ServiceNow journey.

Support and community

Denisha says the training program was intensive but incredibly supportive. She valued the opportunity to collaborate with peers, exchange ideas, and learn from experts. When she needed additional help, she turned to the ServiceNow Community as well as the vast array of online ServiceNow resources. The combination on-demand knowledge and a supportive network gave her the motivation and insights she needed to succeed.

I wasn't a technical person before and now I am. I was able to show myself that I am capable of more than I thought.

Finding success and belonging

Today, Denisha thrives as an Associate Technical Consultant at AHEAD, blending technical expertise with business analysis in a role she finds both exciting and rewarding.  Along the way, she’s become a Certified System Administrator (CSA) and Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS). Now, she’s working on her Certified Application Developer (CAD) qualification and has ambitions to become a Certified Master Architect (CMA).

Starting a new career in ServiceNow isn’t easy, Denisha admits—it takes determination and hard work. But for those willing to take the leap, she says, the rewards are life-changing. From military service to civilian life

After a decade of service in the U.S. Army, Josh recently left active duty. During those ten years, he spent time in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria supporting various Special Operations Forces missions, finishing his military career as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Technician. 

While Josh was committed to the Army, he was also never home. As a devoted family man, he wanted to spend more time with his wife and three children. So, as the time approached for him to leave the Army, he looked for a new career opportunity that would challenge him while letting him stay close to home.

There's almost nothing in life that you can't accomplish if you just keep throwing yourself at it.

Breaking records despite no IT experience

Josh reached out to Chris, an Army brother who recently been through ServiceNow training as part of the DoD’s Skillbridge initiative. After listening to Chris, Josh knew a career with ServiceNow was exactly what he wanted. His IT skills were limited to unplugging and replugging devices, but his competitive nature and determination made up for it. During his initial ServiceNow training program, Josh achieved an unprecedented number of certifications—including Certified System Administrator (CSA), Certified Application Developer (CAD), and Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) in multiple ServiceNow areas—an extraordinary feat in such a short time.

A life transformed

Josh’s career shift completely changed his life and his family’s. Opportunities to start over in a new field are rare, but he found one that opened doors to a fulfilling role at a great company. Looking ahead, he aims to become a solutions architect, designing impactful solutions that improve work for everyone. While I’m not the most technically confident, I’m confident in my ability to learn.
